DIOGO FARINHA, PLAYERS OF FUTURE defender, shone brightly in the defense of the Mafra team in the victory (1-0) on the visit to Nacional da Madeira, in a match counting for the 9th round of Series D of the National Championship of the 2nd Junior Division A. The defense where DIOGO FARINHA leads is the least leaked in the series with three goals, and also with two highlights: it leads Series D and has not yet lost (7 Wins and 2 Draws).
- Do you consider this triumph to be extremely important for Mafra's future in the competition?
- Undoubtedly! It was a fantastic game from our team, we were strong in putting pressure on the opponent and managed to recover many balls throughout the game, we were aggressive and consistent. On a difficult field and in a difficult environment, the team demonstrated, from the beginning, a lot of unity and that was the key to controlling the game. When we reached the goal in the second half of the match, we didn't let up and continued to try to play our game, allowing us to always have the opponent under control and they created practically no chance of danger. In this way, we managed to achieve something that no team had done until now, which was to win and take points from Nacional.
- On an individual level, how do you analyze your performance?
- I think the game went quite well, I was solid defensively and looking for both long and short play, I maintained the necessary aggression and concentration throughout the match, as did all the team members without exception, and only in this way is it that we managed to keep the goal clean and leave Madeira with the much-desired three points.
- Is the victory in Madeira a significant step towards qualifying for the champion series?
- Yes, with each passing game the objective becomes more and more a reality and this weekend we had a very important victory against a direct opponent. However, the team keeps its feet firmly on the ground, last week, against Fátima (0-0), the game didn't go so well and we are aware of that, we will continue to work every week training after training and we cannot lower the pace and concentration if we want to achieve the objective.
- The game with U. Leiria follows. Difficulties in sight?
- Yes No doubt. The next clash with U. Leiria will be one of the most complicated games we have ever had. The last game against them we drew and made several mistakes and our objective is to correct them to achieve victory in this next match. U. Leiria is a team with a lot of collective and individual quality, they may not have started the season so well but they are improving and we cannot forget that last year they were one of the two teams that qualified as champions, so let's focused, concentrated and united for the next game with a view to victory and getting closer to the goal.
