Diogo Farinha: «We continue to be leaders and depend only on ourselves»

DIOGO FARINHA, PLAYER OF FUTURE defender, injured his thigh and was forced to leave after 27 minutes in Mafra's defeat (1-0) against Caldas in a game counting for the eighth round of Series D of the 2nd Division of juniors A. Despite the defeat, the team led by coach Paulo Brito maintained the lead with one more point than Nacional and holds the status of the least leaked defense in the championship.

- How do you analyze your performance?

- It was good, I maintained concentration and aggression and looked for short and long passing lines. In the 27th minute was when the injury happened, in a free kick in our favor I stretched to try to get to the ball and my thigh on the back felt it, I still tried to continue the match but I immediately saw that it wouldn't be possible.

- How did the game against Mafra go?

- It started in a complicated way for us. Caldas started well and we weren't able to create the game we wanted, but as the first 20 minutes went on we settled into the game and became more aggressive.

- Does the defeat shake your confidence?

- No. We remain leaders of the championship and depend only on ourselves. The team has the right mentality and unity in the group to face this first defeat and continue doing what we have done so far. There are seven finals left and we have the same objective as we had going into the match with Caldas. By maintaining the unity we have, the aggression and concentration we have had in games and training, we can actually achieve whatever we want.

- Is leadership, then, to be maintained?

- Clear! We saw our direct opponents approaching us but the important thing is that we continue to only depend on ourselves to achieve the objective. As I mentioned before, we have a very united group and I know that we will be together to face the next seven games. If so, the objective is very possible to be achieved.

- Next opponent is Sintrense. What are the expectations?

- In the next round we have to give a good response to our first defeat in the championship. We are confident of victory.

- Ready for the challenge with Sintrense?

- I still don't know... but whether or not I'm ready for the next match, I'm sure the team will work to the limit throughout the week and will appear in the game with great aggression and concentration and with our unity we can take a decisive step towards pursuit of the objective.
