JOSÉ PEDRO is the man at the helm for Vitória FC's visit to Penafiel in a match counting for the fourth round of the Portuguese Cup which takes place this Saturday (5pm) at the Estádio 25 de Abril. The Victorian team meets the Penafidelenses after having eliminated teams from the upper echelon: Sanjoanense (Liga 3) and Leixões (Liga 2). The Sadinos have strong traditions in the premier competition of the Portuguese football calendar, having won the trophy three times, behind Benfica, FC Porto, Sporting and Boavista, in addition to being runners-up on seven occasions. In the 1964/65 season, they beat Benfica 3-1 in the Jamor final; 3-2 to Académica in 1966/67; and a new victory over Benfica, 2-1, under the command of the charismatic José Rachão. The 2004/2005 season was taking place.
- Vitória has already won three Portuguese Cups. Is arriving at Jamor more than a dream?
- We know that it will be quite difficult to reach the end of this competition, but this great club also has a great history in the competition. And I guarantee one thing: as long as we are in the Cup we will always dream! We are Victory! We represent Vitória, we feel the club. On the field we always have a say!
- What are your expectations for the Penafiel game?
- Expectations are always good, we prepared the game as we normally do and according to what your demands will be. Let's do our best, believing that things will go according to plan. One thing our fans can be sure of: We are extremely motivated to win in Penafiel!
- Is it possible to play the role of tomb giants for the third time in this edition of the Cup?
- Yes! We demonstrated in previous qualifiers that this is possible. We have to be at our best level and believe in what we can do.
- Are the players motivated? Have you done psychological work with them?
- I don't think there is any player who isn't motivated for a game like this, even those who won't start. The coach, naturally, always has a bit of a psychologist and not just for this game. Players only think about winning, that's undeniable.
- Do you believe that Vitória fans will be in force in Penafiel?
- The fans of this great club are always present, I don't know if they will be in force, but those who are will be with us from start to finish, as has been the case throughout the season. They are a true 12th player and a strong source of pride!
- Are there casualties for Penafiel?
- Well, I don't have all the players available, but the ones I have will be in the best condition to give a good response.
